Spring has finally arrived
I’ve lived in New Hampshire long enough to not trust the calendar for the advent of Spring. I look to the emerging shoots and flowers. I am happy to report that Spring has finally arrived
The first sign are the Hellebore blossoms. They are often called Lenten Rose or Christmas Rose because they arrive so early. Deer won’t eat them and they have such wonderful pastel colors.
The Aliens have landed
My daffodils are blooming just in time for an Easter table. These are a reliable and snow-proof flower.
However I have something that is bit more strange that makes its appearance in early Spring. The flowers of the Petasites japonicus aka Japanese Butterbur. It is weird invasive plant that has taken over a swath of land where our old house used to be. However I don’t care because it is so impressive. Right now we just have some alien seed heads popping out of the ground. By summer we’ll see huge tropical looking leaves.
The Indoor Garden
The change of daylight has triggered some indoor houseplants. I excited to see that an orchid had developed a flower. This an exciting time for a gardener,
Seeds
I ordered a number of flower seeds this year including sunflower seeds for Ukraine. I have planted them but they will not go into the ground till the weather settles down in late May.
