Christmas in December, January and February

February 13th, Superbowl Sunday and our Christmas tree is still up.  Christmas was a strange affair this year. Covid made it difficult to gather the entire family so we never had a group exchange of gifts.  It was spread out over 3 months. We exchanged gifts with my oldest son on Christmas day at home, with my daughter in a Kohl’s parking lot in January and my youngest son in his apartment in February.

It was not what anyone of us wanted but these are strange times. Traditionally we would have a Christmas breakfast, but since this was the end of our celebration we decided on a seafood lunch in Rye, NH.

Lunch at Petey’s

In spite of the name, Petey’s SUMMERTIME Restaurant is open year round. There is nothing summerlike about New Hampshire in February. However on this particular day it was quite pleasant with a hint of the arrival of Spring.

I chose my favorite dish, fish and chips.

The Coastline

Petey’s is located on Route 1A directly across from the seawall that runs along the Atlantic Ocean. New Hampshire only has 18 miles of ocean coastline. That the shortest amount of coast of the 23 states bordered by an ocean. However it is a scenic 18 miles.

After lunch we stopped at a turnoff to view the ocean.

Winter Storm

The ocean was calm that day, but the parking area was littered with rocks which had be flung over the seawall during a storm.

Seals

We have been visiting the New Hampshire Coast since the early 1980s. In those early years I never remember seeing seals. The same is true of  Cape Cod. However now they seem to be a common sight. I saw some movement on a rock and managed to get this shaky photo of seals resting on the rocks. Not sure of the species.
