Radiate Kindness

The first Earth Day was held on April 22 1970. Every year, New Ipswich and many of the surrounding towns schedule a town cleanup on the Saturday nearest April 22nd. Collection bags are passed out at Memorial Field and participants get a ticket for a hot dog and the knowledge that they are part of the solution instead of the problem.

I would suggest that the litterers also grab some bags for their cars. That way they can put the Bud Blue, Twisted Tea and Vodka nips directly in the bag and make it easier on the volunteers.

Members of the New Ipswich Historical Society collected trash and picked up broken branches and leaves at the Society building on Main Street. Carl and Peggy pushed some brooms to spruce up the building.

A group of siblings cleaning up New Ipswich

This is my favorite photo taken on cleanup day.  Such a nice group of children doing their part. However I am dismayed in seeing how much trash they collected. Maybe in sometime in the future, they will be able to spend the day picking up broken branches and planting flowers instead of picking up trash from adults.
