Part of the role for the individual beside whom the Red-tailed hawk flies is that of the Guardian of the Earth Mother. These are individuals who will possess an astute awareness of the concept of the interconnectedness of all things, and have an inner reverence for all life.
These are souls that are involved in making the the world a better place, whether locally or globally. They will be protectors of the Mother Earth and tread softly upon her, encouraging and educating others to do the same.

Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) is a 2020 Presidential Candidate. She held a town hall meeting at the Nashua, NH Public Library. When I arrived I watched and photographed a Red-tailed hawk dining on a newly killed squirrel. The hawk was not bothered by my presence and I felt grateful for the opportunity to see it. When Tulsi was speaking about protecting our environment, I kept thinking back about seeing the hawk.
Tulsi was introduced by her younger sister who told how Tulsi was drawn to political action to protect an aquifer in Hawaii from a proposed landfill.
Tulsi started her remarks with the comment that all people want clean water and breathable air. Her record on the issues is much in line with the other Democratic candidates but with an emphasis on the environment and an end to wasteful wars. That became evident when she answered questions from the audience about burn pits and health issues. She is the first female combat veteran to run for the presidency and the first female combat veteran ever to be elected to Congress along with Tammy Duckworth.
I took the opportunity to have a photo taken with Tulsi at the end of remarks. The campaigns like to do this as a cheap way of advertising when we upload the photos to social media (or a blog).
As a final point, when I left the hawk was gone. The partially eaten squirrel carcass remained. I can’t help but wonder if the two events were somehow related.
After the campaign Tulsi became a regular guest on FOX news spouting what I consider nonsense. I no longer share her views.
