Annett Wayside Park is located in Rindge, New Hampshire. It is located in Annett State Forest, a 1,494 acre state forest of New Hampshire. The main gate has been chained for the last two years, with no indication that it will ever be open again. I was curious to see how it had fared with no maintenance, so I took a quick stroll.
The Civilian Conservation Corps was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men. They planted nearly 3 billion trees, constructed trails, lodges and related facilities in more than 800 parks nationwide. (source Wikipedia)
This has been a great year for mushroom foraging. I’ll need to get an expert to identify the ones I photographed.
The New Ipswich Photo Club chooses a monthly photo “theme” as a challenge. Our theme for the November meeting is “spooky”. Wandering alone in an abandoned park on an overcast day was a bit “spooky”.
Did you find out why it’s closed? You are amaxing….did you go by yourself?
I went by myself. I think it is closed because few people go there. There is a walk around a pond which I hope to do if we get a warm sunny day instead of all this rain.
They plan to demolish the buildings, tear up the pavement and return it to a more natural state as a “wayside park”.
Hey John , The deal with Anett is that the state is going to demolish all the buildings on site and tear up the pavement and return it to a more natural condition and open it as a wayside area only. I’ve been in touch with the State Park service about Volunteering at the park. They don’t, as of this spring, have a date for demolition and reopening the main gate. I too took a walk through there a few months ago to scope out my volunteer duties.
Excellent, glad to hear they haven’t forgotten it. Another pond loop I’ve taken is Hogback Trail at Greenfield State Park
