I joined the Navy to see the world, and what did I see? I saw the sea
I never grew tired of watching the sea and the sky during my WestPac cruise during the Vietnam War.
I spent as much time as I could on the flight deck when we were off line. Flying fish would break out of the ship wake before diving back into the sea. The sunsets on the water were spectacular. I enjoyed sitting on the bow at night and seeing the stars against a perfectly dark sky.

On the Oriskany we called it “Day Camp” and we would all go on the flight deck and watch the sunrise! Of course all our work was done and we were playing cards by then.
